Overview of Guitar Lessons:

Whether you want to rock out on an electric or learn fingerstyle on an acoustic, the guitar has unlimited versatility. We will help you with the fundamentals while gearing practice towards any style you like - Country, Jazz, Funk, or Blues, and anything in between. There is only so far you can go by reading tabs online. Our private instructors will get you over that hurdle and help you master your technique.

Age to Begin Lessons:

An acoustic guitar is the perfect entry into musical study for all ages 7 and up, though teenagers will instinctively grab for an electric. Electric guitars are heavier and require additional equipment -- therefore the lighter, smaller sized acoustics are recommended for younger children ages 7-12. The same concepts apply to everyone: learn chord structure and the theory behind it, and then you can work on the nuances of a particular guitar style. And do not worry, you are never too old to start playing.

Purchase Requirements:

Acoustic players will need to buy a guitar that feels comfortable in their hands. A local guitar shop will help match you with the right sized instrument. Smaller children should look into undersized acoustics which are more comfortable to hold and cost as little as $100. Some acoustics come with built-in electrics that allow you to plug into an amplifier. While this is perfectly acceptable, these models are more expensive and are not necessary for beginning lessons. Players looking into an electric guitar will need to purchase a separate amplifier and a power chord. Guitar pics help players pluck the strings and these can be found at any music shop for less than a dollar. Guitar strings will inevitably wear or break and we will help teach you how to restring your instrument when this happens.
