Overview of Piano Lessons:

The piano is a fantastic base for creating music and learning music theory. Students can learn to play the piano within a few months of diligent practice, but becoming a master can take a lifetime. Techniques are simple to learn, but require some dexterity. Practice and dedication are the keys to advanced technique.

Age to Begin Lessons

If you are an adult, it's NEVER too late to learn a new instrument. An often-recommended age to start a child with piano is around 6 years old, although it certainly does depend on the child. We have many 4 and 5 year olds taking lessons successfully through our “Music for Little Mozarts Program”, but some children may not be ready until they are a bit older. Click here to see the non-musical benefits for studying piano. As with all of our instruments, adults are encouraged to take lessons and enjoy the piano themselves.

Purchase Requirements

Entry level musicians should look for a full size, 88-key electronic keyboard. This is an affordable alternative to the acoustic piano and there are several options around $500. After a year or so of dedicated playing, you may want to upgrade to an acoustic piano. These are higher quality than their electronic cousins but require more of a financial investment. Upright acoustic pianos run about $1,000 and up and will fit comfortably in a living room. Grand pianos are the highest quality, but they run well over $5,000 and demand a great deal of space in your house.

Piano tuning:

If you have a piano, more than likely it has not been tuned in a while. Please contact us and we can refer a reputable, affordable piano technician to get your piano sounding like new.

Acoustic pianos require a good string-tuning to produce clear, accurate music. Otherwise, every note played will sound off-key. Give us a call and we’ll help make sure the piano is ready to go.
